May 23, 2016 6:

Dear friends,
We hope your Pesach events were joyous and meaningful. In the last couple of months the IMPJ staff is working day and night towards the IMPJ Biennial, coming up in the end of May.
If you are planned to be in Israel between the 23-28 of May, we wish to warmly invite you to join one or more of the activities specially planned for our guests from around the world –The International Convention of the IMPJ Biennial Assembly and the pre-Convention unique tour: The Architecture of Holiness- Between East and West

Pre-Convention unique tour :

The Architecture of Holiness-Between East and West

Join in a unique Israel experience to contemplate Space, Between Holy and Profane
Guided by Julian Resnick
May 23-May 26, 2016

We will explore Israel in a way Israel is not usually explored. We will open our eyes wide to see both the great architecture and the great questions buildings raise for us in their beauty, ugliness and purpose.  Is beauty inherent because of form, color, shape or does purpose determine how we see a space? See details and schedule in this flyer

The International Convention of the IMPJ Biennial:

Between East and West - Multiculturalism in a Jewish and Democratic State
May 27-28 2016 – Kibbutz Sh'fayim

We invite you to join us for an Israeli-Reform celebratory Shabbat!

A community gathering weekend with the best lecturers, rabbis, congregational members, young adults and Reform families in Israel.
We invite you to experience two days of musical celebration with a team of talented artists and discuss multiculturalism in Israel.

The IMPJ biennial convention has been taking place once every two years for the past 52 years. The biennial is a celebration of learning, prayer, music, dialogue and sessions on a variety of topics and exciting activities for all ages. Over the past decade, the biennial has been taking place on Kibbutz Shfayim. While serving as a unique opportunity for congregational members from across the country to meet and experience Shabbat together, the biennial is also an excellent opportunity for guests to meet the Israel Reform Movement for the first time.

This year, the biennial will focus on “East and West – multiculturalism in an Israeli and democratic society.” We will be hosting the finest lecturers, listen to music from different cultures, and will celebrate the togetherness alongside the differences.

The International Convention, which will take place parallel to the general convention will discuss the reality of a space where different identities exist together, and often experience contradictions and challenges. In the joint space, a variety of relationships form: some are positive, such as mutual inspiration, learning from each other and the like; and others challenging, such as the discovery of differences and gaps between cultures, conflicting values, outward and hidden power struggles on hegemony and resources, and more.
The sessions published in the website will be held in English. In the near future we will also publish a schedule for specific sessions held in Russian.

We invite rabbis, lay leaders, educators and congregants from Progressive congregations around the world to join the International Convention.

If any of your community members and/or leaders are planned to be in Israel at the end of May, we would love to see them join us!
